Surama King (Mrs), an Experiential Learning Educator, Consultant and Humanitarian, is the enthusiastic CAS Coordinator at Tema International School (TIS) in Ghana, West Africa, a position she has passionately held since 2010. She collaborates vigorously with colleague teachers to nurture students to develop life skills and imbibe the CAS values to become highly engaged with their communities.
Originally a Brazilian who has lived in Ghana for the past 19 years, through her stunning versatility she brings her understanding of the different cultures and global perspective to bear in addressing challenges and guiding her students in developing innovation and critical thinking skills. For her, experiential learning must have a transformative effect on the students and lead to the development of character traits such as selfless service, reflection, empathy, integrity and personal leadership.
She is a strong advocate of experiential learning and collaboration. Through the CAS program, she facilitates opportunities for students and educators of TIS to connect, share and have a resounding transformative impact on their community. This drive has produced numerous community transforming projects which not only brought great benefits to the communities but also left her students with cherished memories and a deep sense of worth. Her can-do attitude is utterly contagious.
As a humanitarian who uses her skills and warm personality to inspire young ones to engage, innovate, and become ambassadors of change, she also serves as a trustee of The Children’s Heart Foundation Ghana, as the creative director. Together with other trustees, they raise funds for Ghanaian Children with Congenital heart disorders who needs open heart surgery.
She is married to Kwame King, and they are proud parents of Albert, David and Sarah. She sees her job as an Educator as an opportunity to spread love and impact lives. She has shared the stage with educators, activists, entrepreneurs and leaders at different conferences around the world where she passionately talks about her journey as an educator and the impact of experiential learning in her life. Growing up in Brazil and being a dyslexic student, she encountered various challenges. However, those challenges have awakened in her the love for inclusive education for all children despite their race, background, ethnic groups, religion or gender. She is a lover of LIFE, art, eco-friendly world, gardening, cooking, and writing.
